Podcast

This is a brilliant piece of technology. Podcast can be used as a promotional tool for author talks, library collection, community information, activities and events. It can be used for homework help and lectures that our library organises for HSC students. This digital technology is a great way of reaching a wider audience and it can also give staff feedback on services provided to the public at large.

Slamming the boards

Our library has a link "ask a librarian" which provides information and suggests resources and contacts to help customers with their research. This in itself is a challenge on our question answering skills online. Customers, especially students can benefit a great deal by posting questions and having it answered by people who visit the forum. However, I do prefer customer contact, where I get to deal with real people. To keep in pace with the technological advancement, it is essential that we keep ourselves updated and involved in order to share knowledge.

Unbelievable!! This is a great tool for libraries for keeping track of great reads. Wish I had discovered it before. I wouldn't have had to wreck my brains when recommending books to my customers and friends.

Antics

This is random, but good fun. ENJOY!!

Wiki's

WOW!! I didn't even know that wiki was so simple to use. I have just found out what an easy and flexible tool this is that allows registered users to collaboratively create, edit, link and organise information in a timely fashion.

This is a wonderful source for knowledge sharing. In a library it can be used as a communal notice board for news, book reviews, author talks, summer reading programs, book clubs and many more library activities. It is a great source for getting customer feedback on library resources and services.

The only downside that I can see is that information may not always be accurate as it is too open to public view. However, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

RSS feeds and newsreaders are great in the sense that it provides me with information which I am interested in. I don't have to search for information instead useful information is sent to me.

This could be a very useful marketing tool for libraries, as we would be able to update our customers with information that interests them; such as new resources in the library, author talks and seminars.

Some of the sites that I have selected for my RSS feeds are ABC news, Power House museum, NYT book reviews.

I don't know if I would have time to read all the news feeds but I certainly would want to be aware of what is happening around the globe.
